The completion of the Association’s new building at Kinta Road marked a new chapter in the Association’s history. To mark the occasion, an opening ceremony was held on 28 Feb 2015 and it was officiated by the wife of one of management committee members; Sembawang’s Member-of-Parliament; Miss Ellen Lee.
Not only did the new five storey building instil a sense of pride to the 600+ members of the Association, it is also a testimony to the wisdom and courage of the management committee. As the old premises was becoming old and run-down, the Chairman of the Association began negotiations with the property developer, allowing them to demolish the old building and the Association shall move to a completed new building.
In less than two months, the fundraising effort led by about 200 members, raised $1.3 million that was needed for the construction of the new building. This is the best testimony to how the management of the Association and its members cooperated to achieve a common objective.
The management committee’s decisiveness to switch the location of the new building, helped the developer to be more creative in their design process. The developer also donated $100,000 towards the cost of constructing the new building.
